RS600FF Class Association ....     Why float when you can fly?

Wednesday, November 19, 2008                 Register

The RS600FF takes a proven design, the exhilarating RS600 singlehanded trapeze boat,  and makes it go almost twice the speed, thanks to the addition of some hydrofoils.

Of course, you may know all that already, because we've been trying to keep a lid on the publicity for this amazing new flying machine, and not been entirely successful. Internet sailing forums have been buzzing about this boat forsome time already, but we've not been ready to talk - until now. This is a project that has been two years in the making, and we've not wanted to go public until we were absolutely sure that the 'foiling' 600 had legs - or rather wings! Now we know that it works.

"1820.1 knots in only 1618 knots of breeze, first time out!"

Sam Pasco in action

Sam Pascoe has been the 'test pilot' duing the development and testing.  He was chosen because he is young and talented..... but more importantly, because he doesn't bruise easily.

Why choose RS600FF?
Here are some reasons for you...

* Current top speed of 23.4 knots set by Sam Pascoe in Feb 2007. Sam’s speed record in the Moth is 26 knots, but he says: “I think the RS600FF will be faster….”

* Strict one-design. The RS600FF abides by the existing rules of the RS600 class – with the obvious exception of the hydrofoil package. When the racing circuit gets underway, sailors will not be allowed to customise their boats. The RS600FF is all about cost-effective foiling.

* Ease of launching. Liftable foils make this the most user-friendly ‘foiler’ on the market.

* Quick conversion. In just a few hours you can convert your RS600 so it’s ready for foiling. Want to switch back to the RS600 for some conventional sailing? No problem, the foiling package has been designed as a ‘bolt-on, bolt-off’ package which means you still have your standard RS600 any time you want it.

RS600FF perform in marginal trapezing at Bloody Mary - Wednesday, January 16, 2008
Quote from Peter Barton who was sailing a Cherub "Olly was absolutely flying. Literally travelling in his own time space - at times the boats he was overtaking were actually going backwards. I saw him coming when the wind piped up at the end and reckon given another 3-4 minutes he would have had the lead"

Foiling gybe on camera, plus blowing away windsurfers and Int Moths - Thursday, October 25, 2007

Sam shows how it should be done and captures it on film including an airborne gybe (at end of video)

RS600FF at HISC Tide Ride.... - Friday, October 05, 2007

Sam Pascoe took his RS600FF to the HISC Tide Ride which is a 'Crash and Burn' event... but he proved to the 29ers, RS800s and Int14s that they are only 'Crash and Luke Warm'. He also showed the Int Moths that the RS600FF in the right hands is faster :-0.  See the photos..

First RS600FF Event 27/28th October 2007 WPSA - Tuesday, September 04, 2007

The first official event for the new 600FF class will take place at Weymouth's Portland Harbour on the 27th/28th October 2007. Everyone is welcome whether or not your foils have arrived as there will be plenty to be learnt.

Whilst we are aiming to make this primarily a training event under the watchful eye of Linton and Sam, there is talk of holding a reaching downwind slalom race to try and break away from the dullness of upwind/downwind formats.

Please email Linton@fullforceboats.co.uk if you are planning on coming so we can get an idea of numbers.

First 3 RS600FF 'pilots' hit the skies - Monday, September 03, 2007

The first 3 RS600FF owners have proven that flying is not just for the birds (or moths). "I've joined the 2 foot high club - and getting it back onto the water was the problem", said Graham Simmonds. The grin still hasn't worn off. With over 15 sets of foils already sold, this is the exciting start to a new class.

RS600FF on front cover of October Dinghy Sailing Magazine - Monday, August 20, 2007

Peter 'I dont have a best side' Barton is on the front cover of Oct Dinghy Magazine which is on sales from 2 Sept.  Peter was out performing in Hayling Bay so the photos should be pretty spectacular.    Visit Dinghy Sailing Magazine

First production RS600FF's take flight - Friday, August 17, 2007

Foil sets 1 & 2 from the first batch of 10 have been fitted to RS600s and the boats have taken to the water (or is that the skies). The build quality is exceptional and the fittings are engineering masterpieces. The ability to trolley-launch the boat normally and lower the foils on the water is a huge benefit and enables single-handed sailing.

First RS600FF foiling gybe - Friday, August 10, 2007

Yes - it has been now been done.  Sam Pascoe has executed a gybe and stayed on the foils.  Next is a wire to wire gybe on the foils!!

Demonstration DVD filmed in over 20 knots of breeze - Tuesday, July 10, 2007

Sam Pascoe shows how it should be done in 20+ knots in Weymouth Harbour. The boat is quicker in over 20 knots with the smaller rig and is very, very manageable - and stupidly fast. Watch the video here
